My husband and I met a friend, John (big pipes), for a drink last night at a midtown watering hole, Blackstone’s (245 East 55th between 2nd and 3rd). We ordered a plate of sliders (not our first order of sliders at this joint) and a debate broke out over whether the sliders were blog worthy. The debate was settled when, out of the blue, the bartender poured a round of free shots for the entire bar. Any bar that pours free shots at 7:30 on a Wednesday for no reason deserves a mention on the blog. Further, the men were both very impressed with the sliders. I have a less well-developed slider palate so I’ll share my husband’s thoughts on these tasty morsels…”First off, you get four sliders on a plate. There is a concern when ordering sliders that there may not be enough food, but not at Blackstone’s. The buns are grilled just the right amount and American cheese is the way to go. The burgers are flavorful and juicy, but sometimes they’re overcooked slightly so keep that in mind when ordering. The fries are just ok, sure, but you can’t have everything when you’re eating bar food.” You heard it.
Said husband and I are Berkshires bound this weekend. We plan to eat a lot (no surprise there) – we have reservations at The Old Inn on The Green in New Marlborough and Zinc in Lenox, and the B&B at which we are staying is supposed to have an amazing breakfast and afternoon tea (it’s part of Select Registry’s Fun for Foodies program). Look for posts next week about our Berkshires dining adventures and have a good weekend.
